(Vancouver, BC) - She's
already known as one of the world's best female wheelchair basketball
players. Now, Janet McLachlan (West Vancouver) is taking the wheelchair
tennis world by storm after winning the women's singles of the 2013
Stanley Park Open.
McLachlan was initially
down against Mexican teenager Lizbeth Soto Rivera after losing the first
set 7-6. She rallied, however, to win the match 6/7, 7/5, 6/4.
"It was a fun match,"
she said. "Liz is a good player. We were both pretty tentative to start,
but things picked up later in the match."
According to McLachlan, her experience on the basketball court translated well to the tennis court.
" The chair movement of
basketball helps a great deal for tennis, but there is a lot more time
to think between points," she said.
Later in the day,
McLachlan narrowly lost the women's doubles titles with partner Marni
Abbott-Peter after going down 6/1, 7/6 to Kirsten Sharp and Amanda Yan.
